Ledger® Live Desktop | Getting Started

Welcome to the official Ledger Live Desktop guide. Learn how to download, install, and use the Ledger Live app to manage your crypto securely. Whether you're new to Ledger or updating your setup, this guide helps you get started safely and smoothly.

Your Gateway to Secure Crypto Management

Ledger Live Desktop is the trusted platform that brings simplicity and safety to your crypto experience. It lets you manage multiple assets, update firmware, stake tokens, and connect with the Web3 ecosystem — all while your private keys remain securely stored on your Ledger hardware wallet.

Step 1 — Download Ledger Live Desktop

To begin, download Ledger Live Desktop from the official Ledger website. It’s available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Avoid unofficial sources — always verify that the download link begins with ledger.com. Once downloaded, install the application by following the on-screen instructions.

Step 2 — Connect Your Ledger Device

After installation, open Ledger Live Desktop and connect your Ledger Nano X, Nano S Plus, or Ledger Stax using a USB cable. The app will automatically detect your device and guide you through the setup or restoration process. This includes verifying the authenticity of your hardware and ensuring your firmware is up to date.

Step 3 — Initialize & Secure Your Wallet

Follow the steps displayed in the app to initialize your device. You will be given a 24-word recovery phrase — your ultimate backup. Write it down carefully and store it offline in a safe place. Never share it digitally or take a photo of it. Once complete, you’re ready to access the Ledger ecosystem through Ledger Live.

Step 4 — Manage, Track, and Explore

With Ledger Live Desktop, you can view your crypto balances, buy or sell assets through verified partners, stake tokens, and receive real-time updates. The app ensures that all transactions must be approved directly on your Ledger device — adding an essential layer of hardware security to your daily crypto activity.
